Background: Penflex is a manufacturer of flexible metal hose and metal bellows expansion joints. In business for more than 115  years, the company has a well-established reputation in the industry based on delivering quality products with excellent customer service. 85% of our customers are located in North America with additional customers in 27 countries around the world, including the United Kingdom, France, South Africa, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Middle East.

Locations: Gilbertsville, PA or Houston TX.

Activities: Receive RFQs from customers and prospects. Prepare quotations and drawings using AutoCAD software based on input from customers for fabricated flexible metal hoses and expansion joints. Works within various industry standards to design components that meet the movements requested. When quotations become orders, proceed to build parts in ERP and create bills of materials, subpart purchase orders, and develop special procedures when required.

Position Development: For approximately 6-9 months the sales engineer candidate works 100% in in the office. During this period, we expect the candidate to develop a fundamental understating of the products we offer, their use, design and application. After demonstrating a level of product and manufacturing knowledge and expertise, as well as customer facing confidence, the position transitions to a combination of office and travel-based work, with visits to distributors, and with distributors to end users. In addition, candidate will make their own calls to end users whose requirements exceed the capabilities of the distributors. Travel is within a determined geographic region within North America and will represent about 15-20% of candidate’s time.

Within the scope of additional responsibilities, candidates will be expected to maintain contact information for distributors and end-users within our ERP system and analyze those customers strengths and weaknesses to determine where growth opportunities lie. This information would include items such as: What percentage of their metal hose and expansion joint business is Penflex getting? Who is our competition at that account? If a distributor, what end users or applications are their sales teams pursuing? If an end-user, what are their biggest challenges regarding metal hose and expansion joints? Engineers are also tasked with tracking status of projects—those in development and those in process—within CRM system to ensure visibility into opportunities across the business and support sales projection efforts.
